Position Summary
The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the company’s quality systems, performance and continuous improvement across manufacturing operations. This role ensures product and process quality through strong quality systems, disciplined problem-solving, process controls, and cross-functional accountability.
The Quality Manager will lead quality assurance and quality control efforts, oversee compliance with applicable standards and customer requirements, and partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and commercial teams to drive improvement. This is a hands-on leadership role with expectations presence on the manufacturing floor, leading audits, and directly engaged in problem-solving while also setting direction.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Leadership & Culture
- Lead and continuously strengthen the quality function across manufacturing operations.
- Establish and execute a clear quality vision aligned with business goals, customer expectations, and operational performance.
- Build a culture of accountability, consistency, and continuous improvement around quality at all levels of the organization.
- Develop, coach, and support quality team members and cross-functional leaders to improve ownership of quality outcomes.
Quality Systems & Compliance
- Oversee and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS), including procedures, work instructions, records, and documentation controls.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, internal standards, and applicable regulatory/industry requirements (e.g., ISO, ASME, customer-specific requirements, as applicable).
- Lead internal audits, external audits, and customer audits, including preparation, response, and corrective action follow-through.
- Ensure effective CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) processes, including root cause validation and timely closure.
Process Quality & Problem Solving
- Drive structured root cause analysis and corrective action for internal defects, customer complaints, nonconformances, and repeat quality issues.
- Partner with Operations and Engineering to improve process capability, standard work, and quality at the source.
- Use data and trend analysis to identify recurring issues and prioritize improvement initiatives.
- Champion preventive approaches that reduce variation, scrap, rework, and cost of poor quality.
Customer & Supplier Quality
- Own customer quality issues end-to-end, including issue escalation, root cause, and recovery.
- Build trust and credibility with customers through technical understanding, responsiveness, and disciplined execution.
- Partner with Purchasing/Supply Chain to support supplier quality expectations, issue resolution, and supplier performance improvement.
- Support new product, process, and customer requirements to ensure quality standards are defined and achieved.
Metrics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and report meaningful quality KPIs (e.g., customer complaints, NCR trends, scrap/rework, COPQ, audit findings, CAPA closure effectiveness).
- Communicate quality risks, trends, and priorities to leadership in a clear, actionable way.
- Lead or support cross-functional continuous improvement efforts using Lean, practical problem-solving, and quality tools.
- Help ensure quality decisions support safety, delivery, customer satisfaction, and financial performance.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 7+ years of demonstrated ownership of plant-level quality performance.
- 3+ years of leadership experience managing quality teams, quality systems, or plant-level quality performance.
- Strong knowledge of quality systems, auditing, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, and customer-facing teams.
- Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills with the ability to influence across functions.
- Proven ability to operate with urgency and discipline in a production environment.
Preferred
- Experience in stainless steel fabrication, welding, machining, pressure vessels, process equipment, or related manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of ASME Code requirements (including interpretation and application in a manufacturing environment), with experience supporting quality systems and compliance for ASME-coded products
- Experience in a multi-site manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with applicable codes/standards/customer requirements relevant to process equipment manufacturing.
- ASQ certification (CQE, CQM/OE, etc.) and/or Lean/Six Sigma certification.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and quality reporting/analysis tools.
